Stories from the studio, reflections on process, and the art of the handmade.
An exploration of winter's natural beauty through digital collage and the art of handmade journals.
Inspired by the Stillness of Winter
Winter has a way of revealing the landscape in its simplest form.
Trees stand stripped of their leaves, their bare branches creating intricate silhouettes against expanses of snow. Frozen puddles catch the light, reflecting subtle shades of blue and gray, while ponds and lakes become sweeping stretches of ice.
There is a particular beauty in winter's simplicity, when the smallest details emerge and the interplay of light, shadow, and texture becomes more pronounced.
These are the observations that inspired The Blue Between, a collection of three individually handcrafted journals influenced by the winter landscapes surrounding my home.
Rather than interpreting these scenes literally, I explored them through digital collage, allowing fragments of imagery, expressive marks, and layered textures to suggest the character of the season.
Deep indigo and graphite echo the silhouettes of bare branches. Soft blues recall reflections captured in frozen water, while expanses of ivory suggest the openness of a snow-covered landscape.
The resulting compositions are abstract, yet deeply connected to nature.
Each journal captures a different impression of winter—its contrasts, its subtle movement, and the suspended stillness of a landscape transformed by snow and ice.

From Digital Collage to Handmade Paper
The artwork for The Blue Between begins with my original digital collages.
Through layering, experimentation, and the interplay of color and texture, the compositions gradually take shape. Bold gestural marks intersect with delicate lines, while areas of saturated blue give way to softer, more atmospheric passages.
Once completed, the artwork is printed onto Khadi paper, introducing the tactile qualities of handmade paper to the digital compositions.
The natural character of Khadi paper adds another dimension to the imagery, allowing the artwork to become part of a physical object meant to be held, opened, and enjoyed.
It is this combination of contemporary digital techniques and traditional bookmaking materials that continues to inspire my creative process.

The Art of a Handmade Art Journal
Each journal is individually constructed with eight hand-bound signatures of Neenah Royal Sundance paper, selected for its distinctive surface and inviting writing experience.
The spines are reinforced with Kraft-Tex, a durable and flexible material that provides structure and strength while complementing the contemporary character of the covers.
Along the upper and lower edges of each cover, mulberry paper details introduce another layer of texture and craftsmanship.
A silk ribbon bookmark, finished with a jasper bead, completes each journal.
These finishing touches may be subtle, but they are an important part of the overall design. Each material contributes its own character, bringing together texture, function, and visual balance.

A Place for Your Own Stories
While the covers begin with my artwork, the pages inside are waiting for yours.
A handmade journal can become many things—a place for personal reflections, sketches, creative ideas, travel memories, or observations gathered throughout the day.
Some journals become daily companions. Others are opened when inspiration strikes, or when a particular moment deserves to be remembered.
There is no prescribed way to use one.
I love the thought that something beginning as an expression of my own creativity can gradually become a personal record of someone else's experiences.
The artwork on the outside tells one story. The pages inside invite another.
