I wanted to write a quick post to review how my "Working In A Series" class is going. First off, it has been great! The last couple of weeks I have logged in some serious studio time. I will admit that there have been a couple of 12 hour days.
I am keeping a hand written journal to document each day in the studio as well as work completed and insights along the way. I am using my new "Selphy" that I mentioned in my last post to take images to refer to and add captions as I progress.

I will post several photos in the near future of some things that I have completed. I want to show several pieces together so that there is a reference point as well as showing context between the works. I think it will make more sense than displaying one piece at a time. Before I do, I wanted to share what I have learned about my passion and craft:
- I have learned at a heart level that I create for me. If others find my work interesting too that is a bonus.
- I have learned that sometimes you have to create a lot of "crap" before you have an "Aha-ha" moment.
- I have learned that showing up in my studio and putting in the time and then doing it all over again and again is the path to a good body of work.
- I have learned that working through construction and design issues as well as tossing things in the trash are both acceptable options.
- I have learned that working in a series is about learning one thing in each piece and then building on the next discovery and incorporating each revelation into the work that follows.
- I have learned that I have more to learn.
I have never been one to document things like I have been these last few weeks. I ask myself now, "How in the world were you able to create without this tool?" I have pages of notes and thoughts that I have entered each day. It has been so helpful because I will think of something as I am working and unless I write it down it is lost and often times hard to retrieve.... I am loving this process but I will tell you, IT IS HARD WORK but I wouldn't have it any other way.
