Summer in the wine country is the best! On a sunny day, the sky is brilliant blue, vines are lush with fruit and foliage, and everything is in bloom. It is as if color just explodes before your eyes! We have had the chance to attend several events this summer and for me, visiting the wine country has been total eye candy and inspiration for my Crush series.
I just completed Crush 2, the second piece in my series. This piece is all about summer in the fields. The colors that I selected for this work is what I experienced visually on a hot summer day.
As I continue the work, I feel like I am still getting to know more about what this series means to me. Touch, smell, taste and sight are all wrapped up in the abstraction of what I want to convey through Crush. Crush 2 is definitely about sight, portraying the lushness that is in bloom during the peak summer season.
This piece took me about 3 weeks to complete. It was a little slower going than Crush 1 because of the color palette I selected; at least that is what I concluded when it was all said and finished. The colors represent vivid blue skies, fluffy afternoon clouds, lush vines, and wild flowers galore.
Crush 2 was a lot of fun to create. I worked with colors that I normally don't gravitate too. Blue is just not a color that I instinctively pull from my stash of fabrics but I have to tell you the blue portions of this piece are some of my favorites.
It's hard to believe summer is coming to a close. The months ahead will be all about the main event in the vineyards, reaping the rewards and the final Crush! What will Crush 3 be about? I am not sure yet... but I can tell you this, I am looking forward to seeing how this series continues.
