Last month I had the chance to take a workshop taught by Hilde Morin. The setting for the class was such a treat. It was held at the Sitka, Center for Art and Ecology located on the Oregon Coast. They have a wonderful venue of classes and workshops on a wide selection of topics and mediums.
The class that I signed up for was "Art Bowl / Quilt in a Bowl". We learned how to create a three dimensional art piece in the shape of a bowl.
This was the last week for my Working in a Series 1 Class with Lisa Call. It has been a fast and furious couple of weeks for me personally. Peter and I had a trip previously planned for Kauai that we just got back from. We had a great time and loved the sunshine and all that Hawaii has to offer.
Before I left, our last assignment was to create a piece that focused on Repetition. I started playing with some sketches and ideas in my journal and came up with a plan for a piece that considered all the things that we had studied over the last 10 weeks including repetition.
This week our class assignment for Working in a Series 1 was about line.
I decided to do some experimenting with color and pattern as it relates to line in my series. For my assignment this week I created 3 pieces, Vineyards 13, 14, and 15.
I think one of the aspects for this class that I have really enjoyed is allowing myself to ask the question, "What If?" What if I did this, what if I did that? My works have been fairly small for this class and I believe that has allowed me to explore a variety of things as I develop my series.
By not limiting myself to a handful of ideas and choices I have been able to figure out what I am most passionate about and what I am not.
